Fresh Produce Grower or Supplier of the Year
The last year has seen a significant return to growth for Branston, with a long-term deal to increase share of business with its customers. It is also one of the first in the industry to establish long-term contracts, supported by Tesco, and it intends to roll that out further to give growers the confidence to plan for the future.
In addition, the potato supplier has made significant investments at all sites to improve quality and efficiency, including a £1.7m investment in stateof- the-art grading in Scotland.
A £4.5m extension to its prepared ingredients factory in Lincolnshire, meanwhile, allows Branston to peel up to 500t of potatoes per week, to be used in a range of convenience products. This collaborative process is a first, bringing together Branston, Samworths and Tesco to help find a home for visually-imperfect potatoes. In Waitrose its first-to-market quad packs offer two additional days shelf life, and the company has now educated 20,000 children through the Billy Branston bus.
